Q: I’ve had bags underneath my eyes for as long as I can remember. I think they make me look tired and older than I actually am. Is there a way to get of them, permanently?
—Amber T.
A: While there is surgery known as blepharoplasty that can trim the excess fat from underneath the eyes, this is still not a permanent solution. Eyebags can return at any time from a number of different causes.
Puffy Eyes and Aging
One of the most common causes of eye bags even after a lower lid blepharoplasty is simply aging. As the body gets older, it begins to lose facial volume. This can result in hollows on the face, especially around the eyes. The depression between the tear trough area and the top of the cheek draws attention to the tissue underneath the eye, thus creating the appearance of under eye bags even after surgical excision.
How to Get Rid of Under Eye Bags with Radiesse
Radiesse is a calcium-particle based dermal filler that differs in several ways from hyaluronic acid fillers. For one, Radiesse is firmer and longer lasting that fillers like Juvederm and Restylane. Radiesse can remain for up to 9-12 months before being processed out of the body, and even then the supportive collagen that grew around the calcium spheres remains behind. While Radiesse may not permanently get rid of under eye bags, it does provide a long-term, non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty.
